Example Offers & Item Groups

The following are example item-based offers and how to create them using Item Groups and different offer types available in the Spendgo system.

Discount ( $ )

Enter all the items that qualify for the Discount ( $ ) offer into an Item Group. This Item Group will serve as the Qualifying and Reward Items Group. For example:

Note, an Item Group is not required for a Discount ( $ ) offer type which qualifies on the basket-level, only when the Qualifying Rule is set to an item-level.

Get $2 off any Shake

In this example, any item in the group (either the Strawberry or Chocolate Shake) can qualify to be discounted.

Buy any two (2) Shakes, get one (1) $2 off

In this example, when a member has any 2 Shakes in their basket, the offer is unlocked, and one of the Shakes qualifies for a $2 discount. The Qualifying Item Group will have a quantity of 2, and Reward Item Group will have a quantity of 1 for each item — you need to create 2 Item Groups even if the item group contain the same items.

Buy any two (2) Shakes, get one (1) different item $2 off

In this example, when a member has any 2 Shakes in their basket, the offer is unlocked, and any 1 item from the Reward Item Group qualifies for a $2 discount.

Discount ( % )

Enter all the items that qualify for the Discount ( % ) offer into its Item Groups. The Item Groups will serve as the Qualifying and Reward Item Groups. For example:

Note, an Item Group is not required for a Discount ( % ) offer type which qualifies on the basket-level, only when the Qualifying Rule is set to an item-level.

Get 10% off any Burger

In this example, any item in the group (either the Turkey or Bacon Burger) can qualify to be discounted. The same Item Group is assigned to the Qualifying and Reward Item Group — you only need to create one Item Group.

Buy any two (2) Burgers, Get one (1) 50% Off

In this example, a minimum of any 2 Burger items in the basket qualifies for the discount. The Qualifying Item Group will have a quantity of 2 and Reward Item Group will have a quantity of 1 for each item — you need to create 2 Item Groups even if the item groups contain the same items.

Buy any two (2) Burgers, get one (1) different item 50% off

In this example, when a member has any 2 Burgers in their basket, the offer is unlocked, and any 1 item from the Reward Item Group qualifies for a 50% off discount.

Free Item

Enter all the items that qualify for the Free Item offer into its Item Groups. The Item Groups will serve as the Qualifying and Reward Item Groups. For example:

Note, Free Item offer type Qualifying Rule is automatically set to basket-level in the UI. However, still requires you to set its Item Groups.

Get a Free Summer Drink

In this example, any item in the group (either the Watermelon Cooler or Peach Lemonade) can qualify to be discounted. The same Item Group is assigned to the Reward Item Group — you only need to create one Item Group.

Enjoy any two (2) Beverages Free

In this example, when a member has any 2 Beverages in their basket, the offer is unlocked, and both items will be discounted entirely.

Buy One, Get One (BOGO)

Enter all the items that qualify for the BOGO offer into two Item Groups. These Item Groups will serve as the Qualifying and Reward Items Groups. For example:

Buy one (1), get one (1) Free Sandwich

In this example, the Qualifying and Reward Item Groups use the same Item Group with a quantity of one (1). The member must purchase one sandwich to qualify, and they can choose any one sandwich from the same group as the free sandwich.

Buy one (1) Turkey Sandwiches, get one (1) different item free

In this example, the Qualifying Item Group consists of Turkey Sandwiches, and the member must purchase at least one to qualify for the offer. The Reward Item Group includes the one Free Baked Chips, which the member receives once the qualification is met.

Buy two (2) Turkey Sandwich, get a third one (1) free

BOGO offers follow a “Buy One, Get One” model. To set up this type of offer, use the Discount (%) offer type — for example, “Buy 2 of an item, get 1 item 100% off.”

Price Adjustment

When you’re setting up a Price Adjustment offer type, enter all the items that qualify for a price adjustment and the discounted price. This Item Group will serve as the Qualifying Item Group. For example:

Enjoy a $10 Pizza

In this example, any one Pizza in the Qualifying Item Group can be purchased for $10, using a price_adjustment value of $10. Spendgo automatically calculates the discount by subtracting this value from the item’s actual cost (e.g., if a Cheese Pizza normally costs $15, a $5 discount is applied to bring it down to the $10 promotion price).

To ensure the discount only applies to one item per purchase, you should also set Maximum Applications Per Purchase to “1”. This limits the discount to a single qualifying item in a member’s purchase.

Buy any two (2) Pizzas for $20

To qualify for this offer, two items from the Qualifying Item Group must be purchased. These two items can then be bought for a total of $20 (i.e., $10 per item) by using a price_adjustment value of $10. Spendgo automatically calculates the discount by subtracting this value from each item’s actual price. For example, if a Cheese Pizza is $15 and a Pepperoni Pizza is $18, Spendgo applies $5 off the Cheese and $8 off the Pepperoni, for a total discount of $13, bringing the price down to the $20 promotion.

To ensure the discount only applies to the two items per purchase, you should also set Maximum Applications Per Purchase to “2”. This limits the discount to 2 qualifying items in a member’s purchase.

Multiply Points

Enter all the items that qualify for the Multiply Points offer into an Item Group. This Item Group will serve as the Qualifying Items Group. For example:

Note, a “quantity” value greater than 1 is not supported in the Multiply Points offer.

Earn double points on every Wrap

When you set points to be earned on every item, the loyalty system checks the member’s basket for matching items, and any item that matches the group will earn bonus points.

Earn double points with a purchase of at least 1 Wrap

When you set points to be earned on a purchase with at least one qualifying item, the loyalty system checks for any match to the Qualifying Item Group in the basket. If a match is found, the points earned on the entire purchase are multiplied.
