Member Types

There are two system level types of Spendgo Members — Starter and Registered — and several difference in how each Member’s benefits and incentives can be configured in Spendgo.

Starter Members

A Spendgo Starter Member is a customer who has provided only their phone number during an in-store purchase or has been migrated from a previous loyalty program. Starter Members have not yet completed the full registration process, which typically includes providing additional details such as an email address, date of birth, and full name.

Starter Members can immediately start earning loyalty points from their purchases in any Spendgo powered loyalty program. You can restrict Starter Members from redeeming specific or all rewards and offers until they complete the registration. Additionally, Starter Members can only opt into marketing communications via text messaging since emails addresses have not yet been captured.

Registered Members

A Spendgo Registered Member is a customer who has fully completed the registration process by providing essential personal information (email, date of birth, full name, etc.). Registered Members enjoy full access to all benefits of your loyalty program, including unrestricted redemption of earned rewards and broader marketing communication options.

Members can Register via a number of methods in Spendgo

  • Your loyalty portal provided by Spendgo

    • Usually located at a URL that looks like my.spendgo.com/{YourSpendgoBrandedURL}

  • Signing into a Spendgo integrated online ordering portal

  • Signing into a Spendgo integrated mobile app

  • Registering via another brand in the Spendgo Network: https://www.spendgo.com/directory

Unique Benefits of the Starter Membership Structure

Spendgo Starter Member user experience significantly drives new loyalty acquisitions. It simplifies customer onboarding in-store, as staff only need to capture a phone number to enroll new members. It also enables effective advertising campaigns where customers can easily convert by providing only a phone number, immediately loading offers to their wallets. Additionally, Starter Membership supports straightforward acquisition methods such as QR code scans or SMS keyword campaigns, allowing customers to quickly experience the value of your loyalty program. This initial engagement motivates customers on their journey toward full registration and direct marketing opt-in, eliminating the friction typically associated with downloading apps or linking payment methods.

Example Use Cases

A customer visits your business and provides their phone number at checkout, becoming a Starter Member who immediately earns points. However, to redeem their points and earn birthday offers, the customer must fully register through your website or mobile app.

Best Practices

To convert Starter Members into Registered Members, it's highly recommended to provide clear incentives for completing registration. For example, offer a special reward or bonus like, "Complete your registration today and get 50 bonus points!" Bonus Points encourage Starter Members to fully register, enhancing their experience and maximizing their engagement with your loyalty program while avoid immediate discounts. If you do want to also offer a discount it our recommendation not to give away a visit and instead offer a BOGO or a discount if a member spends above a certain transaction amount.
