Expire Points

Expiring points is a premium feature in Spendgo that helps maintain an active and engaged loyalty program. By setting up point expiration, you can encourage members to return and redeem their rewards before they lose value.

When enabled, point expiration runs daily at the set time (recommended during non-peak hours). Members who meet the Audience criteria will have all their points expire—partial expirations do not occur.

See Common Expire Points Audience for examples.

Things To Know

  • Expire Points is a premium feature, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to enable or disable it for your program.

  • You must have Admin permission to manage your Loyalty settings.

  • If you have enabled expire points and later disable expiring points, all member’s points will no longer expire going forward.

  • Expire Points processing takes about 15 minutes, depending on the number of members meeting the audience criteria. We recommend scheduling the daily processing time during non-peak hours to avoid situations where a member tries to redeem points while expiration is in progress, which could cause confusion or a failed redemption.

  • To view member’s points which expired in a time period, download the Export Data / Expire Points report.

Configuring Expire Points

Reach out to your CSM to enable and configure Expire Points for your program.

Spendgo allows you to customize how and when points expire with the following settings:

  • Enable/Disable Expire Points – Turn the feature on or off.

  • Audience – Set the filter criteria for which members should have their points expire, such as those inactive for N months (e.g., 6 months of no loyalty activity). See Common Expire Points Audience for an example.

  • Daily Processing Time – Choose what time of day the expiration process runs.

  • Start Date – Set the date when point expiration begins for members who meet the criteria.

Common Expire Points Audiences

The following is the most common audience used to expire points and how to build it.

Expire points after members are inactive for N months

Expire points for member after a set period of inactivity (i.e., members who haven’t made a purchase within the set timeframe).

How-to build the Audience

  1. In the Spendgo Dashboard, go to Audience.

  2. Click Add New Audience or the “+” icon.

  3. Give your audience a unique name (i.e., Expire Points After Inactive 6 Months).

  4. Leave Members match all the following conditions.

  5. Click the “+” to add a new filter.

  6. For the first condition, set the filter to Loyalty Activity | not within last (days) | 180 days.
This ensures members who have not made a purchase in the past 180 days meet the Expire Points criteria. Note, you can replace the number of days with what value meets your business goals. To refine the audience further, click "+" to add more filters.

  7. Click Save.
